The Sheriff's Office is releasing the name of the decedent in a suspicious death investigation. The decedent is 34-year-old Maurilio Manzano Gonzalez of Santa Maria. Gonzalez was found deceased near his vehicle in the 5600 block of Santa Rosa Road near Lompoc on May 17, 2019.

New Cannabis Education Program Focuses on Teens, Parents, and Pregnant/Breastfeeding Mothers

The Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office is participating in a special event this Saturday, May 25th from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf located at 5745 Calle Real in the City of Goleta.

The cause of the wildland fire in Santa Ynez, on Saturday, May 18, 2019, was determined to be a result of an individual eradicating weeds with a propane torch.

After seven weeks of interactive classes, 38 Santa Barbara County residents graduated yesterday, May 18, 2019, from the South County Citizen's Academy. The participants ranged in age and came from all walks of life. The Sheriff's Office collaborated with the UCSB Police Department and the City of Goleta to put on the free program.

The Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office is conducting a suspicious death investigation in the unincorporated area of Lompoc. At approximately 8:45 a.m. this morning, a passerby called 911 to report seeing a body lying near a vehicle in the 5600 block of Santa Rosa Road.

At approximately 2:00 p.m., on May 16, 2019, the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Search and Rescue team (SBCSAR) was deployed to Tangerine Falls in the Montecito area to a report of three lost hikers stuck on the side of a cliff.

The Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office has recently received a large number of reports county-wide regarding several different familiar phone scams. The most active scam right now is the Social Security scam and residents have lost thousands of dollars to these con artists.

At approximately 7:15 a.m. on May 15, 2019, Sheriff's deputies executed a search warrant in the 1800 block of Ironwood Drive in Santa Maria. As a result of the search warrant, numerous rounds of ammunition of various calibers, loaded and unloaded high-capacity magazines, several handguns, long rifles and an assault rifle were confiscated from the residence.

At approximately 8:00 p.m. last night, May 15, 2019, the Sheriff's Office was notified of an overdue aircraft out of the Santa Ynez Airport. The pilot had left earlier in the afternoon in his 2006 Aviat fixed-wing, single-engine aircraft for a solo, short flight around the area.
